SPLINT & ORTHOTICS

SPLINT & ORTHOTICS

A neuromuscular orthotic is an appliance that positions the
jaw, where the muscles are in a comfortable physiological position, as shown on
the computer and the diagnostic data.

An Orthotic is a bite splint device that is worn on the lower teeth 24 hours every day for a period of 3 to 8 months. It is designed to reposition the jaw to the correct neuromuscular position. An orthotic, sometimes called a Bite Splint, is a very effective method of relieving TMD symptoms. It provides an acrylic platform to bite against, sometimes moving the lower jaw to its best position that is more comfortable.

Orthotics are dental appliances used to treat bite misalignments if the patient has been diagnosed with TMD.

The patient would use these dental appliances under the supervision and specifications of the neuromuscular dentist.
